Porsche 718 Boxster

The Affordable Beast

Porsche 718 Boxster is the smallest and cheapest Porsche available today. It’s a Porsche nonetheless, meaning that you will get all the top quality Porsche materials, a great engine and everything that made Porsche the recognisable brand you know today, at a great price.

Overview

The new Porsche 718 Boxster has a turbocharged four cylinder engine in place of the old naturally aspirated flat six. This will not make Porsche purists happy, as the change in engine means that the car is not going to produce its trademark aggressive sound anymore. Now, when you hear a 718 Boxster driving by, you could mistake it for a Subaru Impreza Turbo.

The car is available in two versions: the standard and the S version. Both have a flat four engine. In the standard version it is 2.0 litre with 296bhp and it makes 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The S version has a 2.5 litre engine with 345bhp and it makes 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.

On The Road

The car sports the same quality of the predecessor and the feeling on the steering wheel is great but the engine is so different that it completely changes the car’s character. The old flat six engine was an aggressive engine that sounded and performed great. The new one sounds quiet and out of character when you pair it with a car that looks so sophisticated. It’s still a great car to drive, but it has lost part of its charme. The acceleration is fiercer than before and the S model takes things to a new level. But the sound issue is too big to be ignored, we are talking about a sport car after all.

The steering is borrowed by the 911 Turbo  and its very accurate and sharp.

You can choose between four driving modes: Individual, Normal, Sport and Sport Plus. The car instantly adjust according  to the selected mode.

The Inside

Inside the car has been updated with some positive changes. There is a great infotainment screen, the driving position is spot on and there is a choice between manual and PDK gearboxes. ( the manual version is immensely fun to drive ). The interior didn’t receive a complete overhaul, it’s a facelift. The build quality is amazing and you will love spending time in your Porsche 718 Boxster.

Owning a Porsche 718 Boxster

This is a great car to own.  As we said, it is very affordable compared to other cars of the same kind. It’s very economical too when it comes to fuel consumption. The price starts at £41,739 for the standard version and £50,000 for the S version

Final Verdict

The car is fun and it’s built with top quality materials. We advice you to buy the S version, as the 2.5 litre engine performs better, and the price difference is not big.
